Alexander Goldman had seen advertisements regarding Home Sweet Home Ministries and knew that HSHM was well known. Alexander checked the Home Sweet Home website and submitted his volunteer application. He has volunteered over 200 hours.
Alexander picks up donations from a local grocery store but knows his contribution is part of the bigger picture. These items are used for the BFL Co-op and also meals prepared at HSHM to serve those in need.
Alexander feels lucky and privileged in some ways, but through his volunteering, he believes he is contributing to the community. Volunteering has taught him practical things you wouldn’t find in a book…based on real life experiences. He finds his reward in that he is part of the end result – needs being met.
Regarding volunteering at HSHM, Alexander states that HSHM is a great place to volunteer as there are a wide variety of opportunities with some being quick and simple and others that provide interaction with people.
He feels to be successful at volunteering, you have to keep the right attitude of helping; focus on helping and you will see the big picture.
