Fred Nimke started volunteering at Home Sweet Home on July 28, 2014, by helping with various carpentry projects.
He has volunteered over 500 hours. Fred first heard about Home Sweet Home from his friend from Calvary United Methodist Church, Joe, who was already volunteering at Home Sweet Home. Shortly after that, an HSHM staff member had a display for volunteers at Fred’s church. After Fred read the paperwork on Home Sweet Home he signed up to volunteer.
Fred is a retired carpenter and uses his talents to complete projects to make Home Sweet Home more comfortable for the residents. He would like their home to be as nice as his home if he can, and for them to be comfortable here.
His faith has been reaffirmed through his volunteer service at HSHM and because of this, he will continue to volunteer. Jesus is the example he tries to follow. The blueprint in the Bible is that we are called to serve one another and as a carpenter, Fred tries to follow the blueprint to be Jesus’ hands and feet. Fred feels if you feel led to serve, Home Sweet Home would be a perfect place to start.
