Grocery Pick-Up Drivers

Drivers for Grocery Pick-Ups

We are in need of volunteers to assist with our monthly load out. Volunteers will assist lifting and moving crates of items to be weighed and stocked. Drivers can use our van for or their own vehicle. Currently our greatest need is on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 9am-12pm!

Location: 301 E. Oakland Ave., Bloomington, IL (Bread for Life Co-op)

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive punctually and practice good communication with staff
  • Drive our vehicle, or your own, to pick up food donations from various locations
  • Unload food donations, and possibly help weigh/store donations as needed
  • Eventually, if needed, you may be asked to assist with training new volunteer errand drivers
  • Exhibit respect and care for residents, co-op members, volunteers, staff, donors, et al.

Qualifications:

  • 21+ years of age with valid driver’s license
  • Volunteer application on file
  • Closed toed shoes required (tennis shoes are fine)
  • Long hair may need to be pulled back

Time Commitment: 1-3 hours weekly, or bi-weekly, with the intent to commit long-term.

Training/Support: Pantry/Co-op staff or another volunteer errand driver will provide as much training as you need to get comfortable with our vehicle, the routes, and the procedures, and continued support will be provided as needed.

Benefits: You will be playing a key role in gathering provisions for the Bread for Life Co-op and our shelter’s dining center, and you will have the opportunity to learn more about our mission especially as it relates to Food Services. Additionally, over the long term, you may find that you’ve developed valuable relationships with other volunteers, co-op members, staff, and donors.
