We are in need of volunteers to assist with our monthly load out. Volunteers will assist lifting and moving crates of items to be weighed and stocked. This once a month job does not require you to have attended the volunteer training. Currently, we have immediate openings for Tuesdays from 9:00am-11:30am for 2 people to do Grocery Store pick-ups
Back-Up Drivers for Grocery Pick-Ups:
This position will be on-call to fill absences of our regular drivers. Shifts at 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and generally have 2 people per shift. Pick-Ups are done on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. This position does require lifting and moving crates, and will include training prior to being on-call.
Back-Up Drivers for Zoo and Compost Run:
This position will be on-call to fill absences of our regular drivers. Drivers can use our van for delivery or their own vehicle. Position includes picking up produce from our co-op and delivering it to Miller Park Zoo. Compost is also picked up and dropped off near the zoo. You will be trained prior to being on-call and the run is done between 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The entire process takes no more than 45 minutes.
Objective: To pick up donated food for HSHM from various grocery stores, restaurants, the food bank, food drive locations, etc. There are also some deliveries involved (e.g. taking unwanted produce to the zoo), depending on the role of the driver.
Location: 301 E. Oakland Ave., Bloomington, IL (Bread for Life Co-op)
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours weekly, or bi-weekly, with the intent to commit long-term.
Training/Support: Pantry/Co-op staff or another volunteer errand driver will provide as much training as you need to get comfortable with our vehicle, the routes, and the procedures, and continued support will be provided as needed.
Benefits: You will be playing a key role in gathering provisions for the Bread for Life Co-op and our shelter’s dining center, and you will have the opportunity to learn more about our mission especially as it relates to Food Services. Additionally, over the long term, you may find that you’ve developed valuable relationships with other volunteers, co-op members, staff, and donors.
