Brown Scholarship

Home Sweet Home Ministries announces the R. Mack, Roy, and Hazel Brown Scholarship Program.  Under the Program, at least two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded to individuals who meet the scholarship criteria and are selected by Home Sweet Home Ministries selection committee.

All eligible applicants must: 

  • be a high school senior, high school graduate, or have earned a high school equivalency.
  • have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on an unweighted 4.0 scale.
  • be reasonably expected to attend a Qualifying Institution*(defined below), and must actually plan to do so during the next academic year (for which scholarships will be paid.)
  • complete the entire application required by Home Sweet Home Ministries, including providing all documentation requested in the application or otherwise requested by Home Sweet Home Ministries.
  • not have a family or business relationship with any director or officer of Home Sweet Home Ministries.
  • be a resident of the State of Illinois, excluding residents of Cook County.
  • be a recognized adherent of the Christian faith.
  • demonstrate motivation as well as academic and leadership potential.

*Qualifying Institution” means a vocational school, college, or university that is a US based educational organization exempt from federal income tax under either Code 115 or Code 501(c) (3) and that is described in Code 170 (b) (1) (A) (ii).  For graduate school, eligibility includes any university in the world.

Applications must include the following:

  • Copy of official transcript with a cumulative grade point average of  2.5 on an unweighted 4.0 scale.
  • Brief essay (250 - 500 words) addressing the following:

    • What goals do you plan to accomplish in your further education?

    • What personal qualities do you have that will help you achieve these goals?  Give an example of how you have demonstrated these personal qualities.

  • One (1) letter of recommendation from an unrelated adult who can comment on your character, personal, and educational goals.

Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the Qualifying Institution, not the student.

Applications must be received by Home Sweet Home Ministries no later than April 1, 2021.  Late applications will not be accepted.
