Give Thanks Sees Record Numbers, Record Generosity

November 20, 2018

Home Sweet Home Ministries and Midwest Food Bank are pleased to share another bountiful year for Give Thanks. With the generous support of the community, we collected 2,395 turkeys to help those in need.

The turkeys, along with meal boxes, were distributed on November 17th and 19th at Midwest Food Bank with the aid of over 100 volunteers. With the combined distribution dates, 2,522 households were served, impacting almost 10,000 individuals. This marks a new record resulting in 106 more families aided compared to last year.

“Every year I’m humbled by the community’s generosity,” says Matt Burgess, Home Sweet Home Ministries’ Chief Operating Officer. “Give Thanks only happens because Bloomington-Normal comes together to help ensure those in need in our community have a Thanksgiving meal to share.”

Home Sweet Home Ministries and Midwest Food Bank would like to thank everyone involved including all those who donated and volunteered as well as Hy-Vee, Schnucks, and Great Plains Media. We are blessed by the community’s record generosity.

“We are so thankful for the number of people we’re able to impact each year,” adds Mike Hoffman, Midwest Food Bank’s Director of Operations. “None of this would be possible without the community’s help. Thank you so much for sharing the blessings to those who otherwise would not have a Thanksgiving meal.”
