HSHM Sustains Significant Damage During Flooding

June 29, 2021

Our thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by the recent flooding. Home Sweet Home Ministries graciously asks for the community’s support and prayers as we continue to deal with the impact of over 38 inches of accumulated rain that flooded our basement this past weekend.

Overnight on Friday and during the day on Saturday, flood waters poured into Home Sweet Home’s basement due to overwhelmed storm drains on Gridley Avenue. The water entered with sufficient force to damage our freezers, resulting in a huge loss of frozen foods. We also sustained major damage to our air conditioning, laundry facilities, storage shelves, and maintenance areas.

“Despite this catastrophic event, we are continuing to provide safe shelter and care to all of our residents,” says Matt Burgess, Home Sweet Home Ministries’ Chief Executive Officer. “We have many people wanting to help, but we graciously ask for your patience as we assess the damage and determine our needs. The best way to support us moving forward is through prayers and financial support.”
